About Us
Douglas Hileman is President of Douglas Hileman Consulting, LLC. He helps Clients with risk management in operations, compliance, and non-financial reporting. He has decades of experience in auditing, including in-house, operations and compliance, and non-financial reporting. While at a Big 4 firm, he supported financial audits. He has led assurance engagements for conflict minerals Independent Private Sector Audits for each year the SEC Rule has been in effect.

Mr. Hileman has performed many specialty audits, to a variety of criteria. He has conducted audits to provisions of insurance contracts, provisions of Consent Orders, good practices for whistleblower hot lines, accounting rules for contingent environmental liabilities, ISO management systems standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies and procedures. He also led an audit to terms of a Consent Order with the SEC, regarding the policies, procedures and internal controls for managing contingent liabilities for environmental liabilities.

Mr. Hileman helped develop a certificate program in Environmental Auditing for UC Irvine Extension, and taught the Field Applications course for the nine years it was offered. He has taught “Incorporating Sustainability into Financial Reporting” at UCLA Extension. He has presented on Risk-Based Environmental Auditing at an industry association for storage tank owners and operators. He has presented at many Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) meetings, and received excellent ratings from attendees (see www.douglashileman.com for a representative list). He was the meeting chair for five national meetings of the legacy organization to the IIA’s EHS Audit Exchange.

Mr. Hileman developed and delivered training on Audit Readiness for an entity that was subject to a Consent Order from the Environmental Protection Agency. The entity, with dozens of facilities nationwide, faced onerous fines and penalties if a pending audit identified continuing gaps. He has delivered the training to this and other clients nationwide.

Mr. Hileman is an officer of the Los Angeles Chapter of the IIA. He was a member of a global IIA committee that writes guidance document for this 180,000-member organization. He is a co-author of “Internal Audit and the Second Line of Defense,” and contributed to several other Supplemental Guidance publications.
